Silver Crescent Award

The Silver Crescent Award for Manufacturing Excellence

The South Carolina Silver Crescent Award for Manufacturing Excellence was established in 2002 to recognize outstanding manufacturers in the state based on their economic impact, commitment to the workforce, and involvement and contributions to their communities.

Silver Crescent AwardThe honor is awarded each year to one manufacturer in each of three categories: small (up to 100 employees), medium (101-499 employees), and large (500 or more employees). The awards are presented at the annual Salute to Manufacturing Awards Luncheon, which is held each spring.

About the Award

The primary shape of the award resembles the Crescent Moon – one of the historical symbols of our State. The crescent symbol dates back to the 1700's when it was worn on the caps of South Carolina’s revolutionary soldiers.

Etched on the Crescent portion of the award is our State’s official tree – the Palmetto Tree - which, like the Crescent, is a symbol on our State Flag. This tree is symbolic of the defeat of the British fleet by the Fort on Sullivan’s Island, which was built with logs from our state’s palmetto trees.

On the award, these two historic state symbols have as their foundation a cogged gear, representing the manufacturing segment of our economy. In much the same way as manufacturing provides a solid foundation for the economy of South Carolina, this symbol of manufacturing provides a sure foundation for our cherished state symbols on this award.

Deadline for submission of award nominations is February 27, 2009.
