Sixteen high school seniors who excelled in
career and technology education programs in public schools
throughout the state were recognized as “Technology Champions”
at a special celebration kicking off the South Carolina
Department of Education’s Education and Business Summit last
week in Greenville. The Technology Champions Celebration was
presented by the SC Education and Business Alliance and
sponsored by Silver Crescent Foundation. One student
from each of 16 education and business consortia/alliances
received a scholarship award and was recognized for
outstanding academic performance, dedication and commitment to
a career goal. Host schools, business partners who provided
internships, and parents were also recognized for their
important roles in supporting these successful students. Join
us in congratulating these outstanding students.
South
Carolina had over 199,000 students enrolled in career and
technology courses during the 2005-2006 school year. Each
year, many of these students become career and technology
education course “completers”, successfully finishing a
three- or four-course sequence in a designated career and
technology curriculum. It is estimated that 65 percent of jobs
now require a two-year technical degree. As such, the need to
encourage students to pursue career education has never been
more important.
